A popular personal hygiene product has caused many men and women to break out in painful red and purple rashes.
You may remember the deodorant Old Spice from the hilarious ads about how the scent can change a man’s life.
But now furious customers are taking legal action against the deodorant company after suffering from burns, rashes and skin irritation.
Procter & Gamble is being sued for more than $5 million in damages.
There have been hundreds of complaints on social media and a consumer affairs website, where the product has been rated one star.
“I used the Old Spice pure sport and after a couple of days my underarms were raw. It burned so bad that I had to hold ice packs under my arms for a couple of days because of the burn,” a customer from Virginia said.
Another woman who bought the product for her son and husband said after three days her son’s armpit began to burn.
“He showed them to me and I was horrified to see what looked like burns, he said his arms were so sore that he couldn’t even lift his arms above his head,” she wrote on the consumer affairs website on March 19.
“We had to get Bactrim Cream for his pits and 2 weeks later finally starting to scab over. My husband thought maybe our son was just sensitive to the product until the same thing happen (sic) to him 2 days later, my husband said he never felt so uncomfortable. He has to wear dress shirts to work and could hardly even move, because it would rub, it’s been about two weeks with his too and now finally starting to heal. This product needs to go away.”
Jeffory from Washington said it took the skin right off his armpits.
“It was truly unreal. It made them blister and bleed. There should be a total recall on this deodorant because of the chemical burns. I am keeping the original to have it tested,” he said.

Customers have posted shocking images of their armpits on social media, bringing the issue to light just recently, but this has been affecting customers since at least 2014.
A video was posted to YouTube about a year and a half ago warning people of the burns.
“I’ve been using Old Spice for a long time, no problems with it, no burns under my arms or anything,” Michael Smith said.
“Recently I purchased Old Spice High Endurance Fresh, as you can see I’ve used it many times.
“I started developing these red marks under my arms three or four days ago.”
Another man also posted a video in 2014, complaining about the Old Spice Aqua Reef brand.
Rodney Colley, from Alexandria in Ohio, is the lead plaintiff in the case against Procter & Gamble.
He told the Independent Journal Review he had used Old Spice products in the past but noticed his armpit was damaged after using Old Spice Pure Sport High Endurance for the first time.
USA Today reports the lawsuit states 13 products were being investigated, including Old Spice Lionpride and Arctic Force High Endurance deodorants.
Procter & Gamble spokesman Damon Jones told USA Today the products were safe to use and said the problems customers were experiencing were not chemical burns, but skin reactions that could be caused by ingredients such as alcohol or fragrance.
“We go to great lengths to ensure our products are safe to use, and tens of millions of men use this product with confidence and without incident every year,” he said.
“A small number of men may experience irritation due to alcohol sensitivity, a common ingredient across virtually all deodorant products. For men who have experienced a reaction to a deodorant, an antiperspirant may be a better option because they have a different formulation.”
