Since it opened in December 2009, the Owensboro Museum of Science & History’s Historic Coal Mine Tour has become a tourist attraction.
The simulated coal mine in the museum’s basement at 122 E. Second St. currently draws an average of 8,000 to 11,000 visitors a year — many of them school groups from as far away as Paducah.
